In this five-minute guide, we'll introduce you to our new liposomal sleep formula and discuss:
- the ingredients,
- the technology behind this product, and
- the advantages offered by liposomal supplementation.
We'll also offer some detailed insights about liposomal delivery based upon recent scientific research.
2. What are Liposomal Products, and Why Are They Important?
Liposomal products are growing rapidly in popularity throughout the well-being supplement industry.
The reason behind their excellent reputation is that liposomal products provide a solution to the most significant problem our bodies face when processing supplements and medications:
Absorption rates!
When we take supplements or medications, vast quantities of these products are either:
- Broken down by our stomach acids, or
- Metabolized by our livers.
Simply put, our bodies don't know that we've taken a supplement or a drug to benefit our health. They just identify this substance as “foreign” and kick-start the natural processes that are designed to protect us from harm.
This is a good thing…right?
Our livers are super-important organs. They stop us from being poisoned and work in synergy with our kidneys to purify our blood and make sure that all of the vitamins and minerals we consume are stored and absorbed efficiently.
Of course, we want our livers to eliminate toxins and help us to live long and healthy lives.
We also want to reap the potential benefits offered by innovative supplements such as CBD products.
The beauty of liposomal products is that they help prevent the breakdown of essential nutrients in our digestive system and our liver, making sure that our bodies absorb more micronutrients that support our health and well-being. (Click to tweet)
More about this later.
First, let's look at what happens when we ingest a non-liposomal CBD product.
3. What Happens When You Ingest a Non-Liposomal CBD Product
Let's use a CBD capsule as an example.
When you swallow a CBD capsule, it goes through a series of processes. It lands in the gut, where it will be partially broken down by stomach acids. Next, the supplement will be processed by the liver and other digestive organs in the body. During this journey, the capsule and its contents will be sorted into unusable and usable substances.
Some of the CBD and non-usable ingredients will be converted to waste immediately, as they can't be absorbed via the lining of the intestines.
In fact, a significant proportion of the CBD you have ingested will never make it into your bloodstream, with even less reaching the endocannabinoid system (ECS), the place where CBD has its biggest impact.
RELATED: Endocannabinoid System Explained
The amount of CBD that eventually reaches the bloodstream and can be used by the ECS is known as “bioavailable CBD.” (Click to tweet)
Therefore, CBD bioavailability is calculated by the rate at which the compound is absorbed into the bloodstream. “Bioavailability” refers to the amount of CBD available in a given product that is ready to be absorbed into the bloodstream.
Any leftover CBD that can't be used by the ECS is typically deposited into fat cells, where it is stored. This CBD will be slowly released by the body over the next few days, prolonging the supplement's potential therapeutic effects.
So, there we have the problem:
Our bodies are just too efficient!

Now, let's take a look at what happens when we take a liposomal CBD product.
We'll use our new liposomal sleep formula as an example.
4. Liposomal Sleep Formula: How it Works
First, let's take a trip down memory lane to when you consumed your first liposome.
Likely, the first time you ingested a liposome was directly from your mother via her natural breast milk.
Breast milk contains phosphatidylcholines, which are tiny bubbles that transport nutrients and are readily absorbed into the bloodstream.
Our developing bodies recognize these phosphatidylcholines as protective packages, absorbing them into the blood, and processing vital vitamins and micronutrients.
This is vital when we are developing and our digestive tracts are incapable of absorbing nutrients.
Further, liposomes are a copy of the natural phosphatidylcholines present in breast milk.
Phosphatidylcholines are small, water-soluble, and—most importantly—they are recognized and trusted by our bodies since they are present in every cell.
They protect the nutrients that they carry and are easily absorbed into the bloodstream without being broken down by the digestive system and the liver.
Our new liposomal sleep formula uses a patent-pending proprietary CELLg8 delivery system. This natural liposomal preparation is designed to increase the amount of active ingredient absorbed into the bloodstream, giving the CBD products a high bioavailability. (Click to tweet)
When you take our new liposomal sleep formula, your body recognizes the phosphatidylcholines. It accepts the supplement and absorbs the CBD, bypassing the digestive system and liver.
In a nutshell, liposomal supplements use innovative technology to mimic one of our bodies' most trusted delivery systems, allowing increased bioavailability and CBD absorption. (Click to tweet)
With liposomal CBD products, customers are able to feel the difference faster and at lower doses, which can be particularly helpful to people who use CBD to promote restful sleep.
5. Key Ingredients in Our New Liposomal Sleep Formula
Our new liposomal sleep formula includes a generous helping of hemp oil extract and naturally occurring full-spectrum CBD. (Click to tweet)
The full-spectrum CBD utilizes all the additional beneficial compounds, terpenes, and flavonoids present in the hemp plant, helping your body to experience the full “entourage effect” of this CBD product.

Besides delivering premium-grade CBD derived from organic hemp plants, our liposomal sleep formula contains a proprietary blend of ingredients known to have a positive impact on promoting restful sleep. (Click to tweet)
These include the following:
5.1 Melatonin
Melatonin is a hormone that contributes to the regulation of our natural sleep-wake cycle. It's released by the pineal gland, which is located near the back of the brain. Melatonin is a popular dietary supplement, used regularly by people to treat short-term sleep problems. Examples of this include shift work or jet lag.

5.2 Valerian Root Extract
Valerian is an herb native to parts of Asia, Europe, and North America. Its root has been used medicinally for centuries. Valerian extract is most commonly used as a pharmaceutical alternative to treat sleep disorders, especially insomnia. It has also been administered orally for potential relief from psychological stress and anxiety.
5.3 Passionflower Extract
Passionflower is native to South America and is part of the Passiflora family, a family that includes the passion fruit.
For over 500 years, people have used passionflower for their potential medicinal purposes. Some researchers believe that supplementing with passionflower extracts could alleviate some forms of insomnia and anxiety.
This is because the extracts could increase gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels in the brain. GABA, an inhibitory neurotransmitter, may produce a calming effect in people, as it counters the neurotransmitters responsible for excitement.

Please note, we're not medical professionals, and much of the evidence that claims the ingredients in our liposomal sleep formula alleviate sleep problems is anecdotal. We manufacture supplements to support a healthy lifestyle and do not make medical claims when we provide this information.
6. What the Science Says about Liposomal Delivery
Although research is still ongoing around liposomal delivery methods, the most significant proven benefit is how vastly this method of administration delivers drugs or other substances into the blood. (Click to tweet)
This was demonstrated in a 2016 study that compared the impact of liposomal delivery of Vitamin C with intravenous and non-liposomal administration. [1]
The study aimed to monitor favorable outcomes pertinent to oxidative stress and physiological function, as vitamin C has been shown to decrease oxidative stress.
During the study, participants were either administered intravenous vitamin C, a placebo, unencapsulated vitamin C, or vitamin C encapsulated with liposomes.
The results showed that those who were given liposomal vitamin C absorbed almost as much as those who received an intravenous infusion of the vitamin. In contrast, much less vitamin C was found in the bloodstream of those who were given the unencapsulated form of the vitamin.
This study outlines the efficiency of liposomal delivery methods in comparison to non-liposomal consumption. It's incredible to think that participants showed as much vitamin C in their bloodstream from taking liposomal supplements as they did when it was injected straight into their bloodstream.
Another study, published in the American Journal of Endocannabinoid Medicine, compared the amounts of CBD present in the bloodstream when taken as a liposomal supplement and as a non-liposomal supplement. [2]
The results showed that one hour after ingesting the supplements orally, many of the participants who took non-liposomal CBD had little to no CBD present in their bloodstream. In contrast, all of the people who took liposomal CBD had CBD present in their blood.
The company that supplied the liposomal CBD for this specific study is Puffin Hemp—the same company we've partnered with to create our new liposomal sleep formula, using their patent-pending CELLg8 delivery system. Their natural liposomal preparations are engineered to increase the amount of CBD absorbed into the bloodstream.
The results of this study prove that liposomal CBD provides much higher bioavailability than stand-alone CBD. More significant studies are needed to 100% validate that liposomal CBD is more universally efficient than non-liposomal alternatives, but the research conducted so far looks very promising.

7. More Advantages of Liposomal Supplementation
7.1 Nutrients are Protected from Oxidation and Decomposition
Liposomes work as a protective barrier around the cargo of nutrients that they carry. This barrier shields encapsulated substances from the harsh biological and chemical environment of our gastrointestinal tracts, preventing them from being broken down. (Click to tweet)
Liposomes also work to protect nutrients from any oxidative damage that may be caused by free radicals. This protective barrier stays intact until the cargo of nutrients is delivered directly to our cells. (Click to tweet)
7.2 Easy Cell Penetration
Liposomes are composed of the same fats that your cell membranes are made from—meaning that these nanospheres are compatible with our biological membranes. Therefore, nutrients can penetrate the membrane barrier with ease, using very little energy.
Some vitamins and supplements are water-soluble, making them ineffective at penetrating cell membranes made up of fats and lipids. What's fantastic about liposomes is that they have both water-repelling and water-loving compartments. (Click to tweet)
This means that they can carry both water-soluble and fat-soluble nutrients to the places where our bodies benefit from them.
7.3 No Known Side Effects
Standard supplements, including CBD, are associated with minor gastrointestinal (GI) distress, which is especially prevalent when taken in high doses. Liposomal formulas completely bypass the gastrointestinal route, eliminating the risk of GI discomfort. (Click to tweet)
The supplement and medical industries are just beginning their journey with liposome products, and this delivery method shows great promise. (Click to tweet)
Some clinical trials have shown that liposomal delivery systems can successfully deliver antibiotics, anti-cancer medications, anesthetics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and antifungal medications. [3]
Taking liposomal supplements could have a significant impact on your overall well-being, as they can:
- Protect nutrients from the harsh environments inside the gastrointestinal tract.
- Transport both fat-soluble and water-soluble nutrients efficiently.
- Improve the overall bioavailability of nutrients.
- Increase the absorption and uptake of nutrients by your cells.
- Reduce the side effects associated with consuming oral supplements regularly, such as pills, tablets, and powders.
8. Final Thoughts
